I finally launched my own blog for Living an Unordinary! It has been more than seven years in the making.
I started Living an Unordinary (LUL) in 2017 as I embarked on the journey to find my joy in life again. Back then, my focus wasn't so much on writing but on becoming the motivational speaker I had dreamt of since I was fifteen. The posts that I wrote were mostly to help me gain more exposure and get speaking opportunities. (Little did I know it would spark my interest in writing so much more [even an entire book] further down the road!) So, I only thought of using the free and most convenient platform, Facebook, to share my writing.
A year later, I started to get busy with speaking engagements. I crowdfunded my first solo talk, which was an hour long. I continued to give awareness talks with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore). I also got to take on the role of a trainer at Glow in the Dark, which was really tiring but rewarding. I was so caught up with all these talks and workshops that I stopped writing.
However, things slowed down after some time. I wasn't able to carve out my own career path as a motivational speaker. My primary source of speaking engagements dried up when Glow in the Dark underwent a significant transition in the second half of 2019. I went back to my former work in digital marketing, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise when COVID-19 hit. At a time when many activities and businesses came to a halt, I was grateful that I could still work from home.
Another positive that came out for me during the pandemic was the book that I wrote. The book (Can I Love?) was something that I wanted to write for some time but hadn't because of my "inertia". Being too free and seeing how others were doing their best to find alternatives to staying active motivated me to finally write my book. After launching the book, I received many compliments and encouragement from people around me; a few even asked me when I would write my next book. These encouraging messages inspired me to believe in my writing abilities.
Writing a book takes a lot of effort and a grand idea. I'm not up for this challenge at the moment, so I will write on a blog instead. For those of you looking forward to my next book, perhaps you can treat this blog as my second book! 😂
I have come a long way since I started this LUL journey. There've been many twists, turns and changes in these seven years. Now, in my mid-30s, which is considered old for someone with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, I see things somewhat differently. I don't want to write only about the motivational stories on this blog. (To be honest, I have very little to write about, if it's only the positives.) I want to be free to write about anything I feel strongly about or think is interesting to share with you. So let's get started, shall we?

DeleteEvery Monday, I'll share music that I like, has been a significant part of my life, or simply feels good to me. I call this Song Appreciation Monday (or SAM, in short), and I hope you'll appreciate these songs and music too!
