SAM #4: Touching Love Song From a Video Game

Every Monday, I'll share music that I like, has been a significant part of my life, or simply feels good to me. I call this Song Appreciation Monday (or SAM, in short), and I hope you'll appreciate these songs and music too!

I'm an avid gamer and like playing video games with good stories. "To the Moon" is one such game that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's an adventure game with simple and linear gameplay, yet it has a thought-provoking story with tear-jerking moments. Without giving away the spoilers, the game revolves around the work of two doctors, Dr Eva Rosalene and Dr Neil Watts, tasked to fulfil the dying wish of an elderly man named Johnny. Johnny wishes to go to the moon, and Eva and Neil do this by altering his memories using the technology of the company they work for.

"To the Moon" is not only a game with a good story but also great music. My favourite music from the game is the song titled "Everything's Alright". The song has a very soothing melody and lyrics that are very fitting for the game's narrative. The latter conveys the characters of Johnny and his wife, who has Asperger's syndrome, as well as the interactions between them. The lyrics are plain yet powerful enough to touch the listener's heart. In particular, the chorus felt incredibly romantic to me. "When this world is no more... I'll ask you to fly away with me... If you're with me, then everything's alright." Somebody would sooooo touch me if they sang this to me! 😆
