Every Monday, I'll share music that I like, has been a significant part of my life, or simply feels good to me. I call this Song Appreciation Monday (or SAM, in short), and I hope you'll appreciate these songs and music too!
For my first SAM, I thought why not share the first song I like or something. But I just couldn't recall what really was my "first love" in music, so I pondered deeper over the music of my childhood years… And yes! I fondly remember this memory of my first hip-hop dance in primary school.
It's been over 20 years, so my memory is a little vague. The performance might have been for Teachers' Day. Some of my classmates wanted to do a hip-hop dance with the popular hit "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" by Vengaboys. I wanted to join them so badly, although I knew I would have difficulty keeping up with them because I was physically weak (I could still walk and run a little). They were very nice and didn't hesitate to welcome me, the weakest link, into their group.
To work around my lack of agility and stamina, they did something that seemed to be counterintuitive: I was placed in the centre, and they would form a circle around me. Who would have thought the weakest link would be in the centre? But it actually made sense because I didn't have to move around as much at the centre! I was amazed by the thoughtfulness of the group. Not only did they accept me unconditionally, they even put me in the limelight! This entire experience was one of the best moments of my primary school life.
Was "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" also the popular hit of your time? Comment below! (I'm curious to know if anyone else also grooved to the beat of this song!)
